history
On July 28, 1883 , the station was opened by the first private railway company in Japan, the Nippon Tetsudō ( 日本 鉄 道 , literally: "Japan Railway"), with the Takasaki line. The Chichibu line began operating on October 7, 1901, and the Jōetsu Shinkansen has been operating since November 15, 1982.
