Queenscliffe is located about 100 km south of the capital Melbourne on the Bellarine Peninsula on the western side of the entrance from the sea into Port Phillip Bay and consists of the villages of Point Lonsdale and Queenscliff and Swan Island. The Borough Council is based in Queenscliff.

Queenscliffe is the last remaining administrative district called Borough in Victoria and was able to defend itself against a merger with the City of Greater Geelong during the last territorial reform in 1994 .

There are dangerous limestone cliffs in front of Point Lonsdale and that is why there has been a lighthouse there since 1863. On May 12, 1863 the borough was founded. There are also lighthouses at Queenscliff. The former fishing village developed into a tourist destination with several hotel buildings at the turn of the century. A fort guarded the approach to Melbourne until the middle of the 20th century. The only black lighthouse in Australia is part of the military installation. Today Fort Queenscliff is the largest and best-preserved fort in Australia, houses the local military administration and is open to the public. Fishing and tourism are still the mainstays of the region today.

administration

The Queenscliffe Borough Council has seven members who are elected by LGA residents. Queenscliffe is not divided into districts. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
