Coordinates: 36 ° 45 ′  S , 144 ° 16 ′  E The City of Greater Bendigo is a local administrative area (LGA) in the Australian state of Victoria around the city of Bendigo . The area is 2979 km² and has about 110,000 inhabitants.

Greater Bendigo is located about 150 km northwest of the capital Melbourne in the geographic center of Victoria and includes the following towns: Axedale, Bendigo , Derrinal, Drummartin, Elmore, Eppalock, Heathcote , Lake Eppalock, Goornong, Huntly, Kombolton, Lockwood, Marong, Neilborough, Ravenswood and Woodvale. The seat of the City Council is in the city of Bendigo in the middle of the LGA.

The Shire consists of the city, which with over 80,000 inhabitants is the second largest offshore city in Victoria after Ballarat , and a few surrounding villages. The region's water supply is provided by Lake Eppalock , southeast of Bendigo near Heathcote, which is fed by the Campaspe River. For several years the tourist use of the lake has been restricted due to the persistent dry period.

The Greater Bendigo City Council has nine members who are elected by the residents of the nine wards. Seven of these boroughs, Eaglehawk, Epsom, Sandhurst, Golden Square, Flora Hill, Stathfieldsaye and Kangaroo Flat are in the Bendigo area, the remaining two are North West Plains and Eppalock. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
