Coordinates: 36 ° 23 ′  S , 145 ° 24 ′  E The City of Greater Shepparton is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Victoria around the city of Shepparton . The area is 2421.9 km² and has over 64,000 inhabitants.

Greater Shepparton is about 180 km north of the capital Melbourne and includes, among others, the following towns: Shepparton , Mooroopna, Tatura, Murchison, Congupna, Dookie, Katandra, Merrigum, Cosgrove, Kialla East, Toolamba, Undera and Tallygaroopna. The City Council is located in the city of Shepparton in the middle of the LGA.

The city of Shepparton east of the Goulburn River is together with the city of Mooroopna on the opposite west bank with almost 34,000 inhabitants one of the largest settlement areas in rural Victoria. In addition, the Shire is in the "Food Bowl" (literally food bowl), the "pantry" of Australia, an extremely productive agricultural region. The industrial processing of the products are an important industry of the Shire. Among others, SPC Ardmona , the largest producer of canned fruit in Australia, the Australian branches of Campbell’s and Unilever as well as several large manufacturers of dairy products are located there.

The Greater Shepparton City Council has seven members who are elected by LGA residents. Greater Shepparton is not divided into districts. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
