Coordinates: 37 ° 3 ′ S , 146 ° 5 ′ O Mansfield Shire is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Victoria . The area is 3843.9 km² and has about 8600 inhabitants.
Mansfield is located in the center of east Victoria about 180 km northeast of the city center of Melbourne and borders the greater Melbourne area in the southeast. The Shire includes: Kevington, Woods Point, Bonnie Doon, Merton, Tolmie, Merrijig, Sawmill Settlement, Mansfield, Goughs Bay, Macs Cove and Jamieson. The City Council is located in Mansfield in the center of the LGA.
The area between the metropolis Melbourne and the high mountains of the Great Dividing Range is a major tourist destination: Every year around 1.2 million tourists visit the sparsely populated "High Country" at the southwest end of the Alpine National Park , Victoria's largest national park. Special attractions are the ski area at 1805 m high Mount Buller and Lake Eildon , the second largest water reservoir in Victoria after the Dartmouth Dam , with an area of 13,840 hectares and 483 km of coastline.

The Mansfield Shire Council has five members elected by the residents of the four wards. Of these four constituencies, Bonnie Doon, Jamieson and Tolmie have one each, and Mansfield Ward has two councilors. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
