Coordinates: 37 ° 41 ′  S , 144 ° 55 ′  E Hume City is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Victoria . Hume belongs to the metropolis Melbourne , the capital of Victoria. The area is 503 km² and has about 200,000 inhabitants.

Hume is located 13 to 40 km from Melbourne city center on the northern edge of the city and contains 25 districts: Attwood , Broadmeadows, Bulla, Campbellfield, Coolaroo, Dallas, Gladstone Park, Greenvale, Jacana, Kalkallo, Meadow Heights, Melbourne Airport, Mickleham, Oaklands Junction, Roxburgh Park, Somerton, Sunbury, Westmeadows, Yuroke and parts of Clarkefield, Craigieburn, Diggers Rest, Donnybrook, Fawkner , Keilor and Tullamarine . The City Council is based in Broadmeadows.

Melbourne Airport is located south of the City of Hume . Accordingly, important industries have settled here, especially from vehicle construction ( Ford Motor Company ) and the aviation industry.

Almost every third inhabitant of the city was born abroad and around a third of the population is under 18 years old.

The Hume City Council has nine members who are elected by the residents of the four wards (two councilors each from Airport, Jacksons Creek and Merri, three from Aitken Ward). These four districts are determined independently of the districts. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
