Coordinates: 37 ° 53 ′  S , 145 ° 13 ′  E Knox City is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Victoria . Knox belongs to the metropolis of Melbourne , the capital of Victoria. The area is 116 km² and has about 150,000 inhabitants.

Knox is 16 to 35 km east of Melbourne city center and contains ten neighborhoods: Bayswater , Boronia , Ferntree Gully, Knoxfield, Lysterfield, Rowville, Scoresby, The Basin, Wantirna and Wantirna South. The City Council is located in Wantirna South.

The city lies at the foot of the Dandenongs , a range of hills around the 633 m high Mount Dandenong.

The city has grown rapidly since the 1970s and is one of the largest in the capital. The chemical and food industries are strongly represented here. The Japanese game console manufacturer Nintendo has its Australian headquarters here.

The Knox City Council has nine members who are elected by the residents of the nine wards. These nine districts (Baird, Chandler, Collier, Dinsdale, Dobson, Friberg, Scott, Taylor and Tirhatuan) are determined independently of the districts. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
