Coordinates: 37 ° 54 ′ S , 144 ° 40 ′ E Wyndham City is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Victoria . Wyndham belongs to the metropolis Melbourne , the capital of Victoria. The area is 540 km² and has about 220,000 inhabitants.
Wyndham is located 18 to 51 km from the city center on the west end of Melbourne on the western edge of Port Phillip Bay and borders the area of the neighboring city of Geelong . It contains 13 neighborhoods: Cocoroc, Hoppers Crossing, Laverton North, Mambourin, Point Cook, Tarneit, Werribee , Werribee South, Wyndham Vale and parts of Laverton, Little River, Mount Cottrell and Truganina. The seat of the City Council is in Werribee in the center of the LGA.
Wyndham is one of the fastest growing administrative areas in Victoria. In addition to growing vegetables, there is also industry here, mainly in the chemical sector.
There are two air force bases in the city area. Point Cook Base was the first base of the Royal Australian Air Force after the First World War .
Werribee is home to one of Melbourne's three zoos. Werribee Open Range Zoo is an open-air zoo that you drive through with a bus in a kind of safari tour.

Wyndham City Council has nine members elected by residents of the three wards (three councilors per ward). These three districts (Iramoo, Chaffey and Truganina) are determined independently of the districts. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
