Coordinates: 37 ° 59 ′ S , 145 ° 4 ′ E Kingston City is a Local Government Area (LGA) in the Australian state of Victoria . Kingston belongs to the metropolis of Melbourne , the capital of Victoria. The area is 91 km² and has about 150,000 inhabitants.
Kingston is located 18 to 35 km from Melbourne city center on the northeastern edge of Port Phillip Bay and contains 21 districts: Aspendale, Aspendale Gardens , Braeside, Bonbeach, Carrum, Chelsea, Chelsea Heights , Clarinda, Clayton South, Dingley Village, Edithvale, Heatherton, Mentone, Moorabbin, Moorabbin Airport , Mordialloc , Oakleigh South, Parkdale, Patterson Lakes and parts of Cheltenham and Highett. The City Council is located in Cheltenham in the northwest of the LGA.
Kingston's main industries are the chemical and plastics processing industries. Big companies like Philip Morris and Coca-Cola have offices here. There are also three larger shopping centers in the administrative area.
The small Moorabbin Airport is also located in the LGA area .

The Kingston City Council has seven members elected by the residents of the seven wards. These seven districts (Barton, Clarinda, Hawker, Como, Baeside Park, Carrum Carrum and Patterson River) are determined independently of the districts. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
