Chelsea Heights is a district of the Australian city of Melbourne . It is located approx. 30 km from the city center. In 2016 the district had a population of 5,335.
Originally, the area was characterized by swamp, from which only a few sand dunes protruded, which were known as Islands of Wannark Laddin . From 1850, parts of the swamp were drained in order to gain arable land. The name Chelsea was suggested by a resident for the local train station, Chelsea Station , in 1882 .
