The Moorabbin Airport or Harry Hawker Airport ( IATA code : MBW , ICAO code : YMMB ) is an airfield for general aviation , located about 25 km from the city center in the southeastern suburbs of the Australian metropolis of Melbourne is. The site forms its own suburb ; the surrounding hamlets are Heatherton, Cheltenham, Dingley Village and Mentone.
Originally the airport was to be named after Mentone . In order to avoid confusion with the French airport Menton , it was decided to use the name of the also obvious Moorabbin .
Flight movements
In the 2013 calendar year, the airfield recorded 225,020 aircraft movements, of which 189,164 (84.0%) were aircraft less than 7 tons and a further 35,756 (15.9%) were helicopters. This makes the airport the third busiest in Australia in absolute terms (after Sydney and Jandakot ), but it only plays a regional role.

The nearest railway station is Cheltenham and about two miles away. A bus line that goes to various train stations runs along the north side of the airfield.
