Boronia is a district in the east of Melbourne . It is 29 km from the city center. At the 2016 census it had 22,195 inhabitants.

Boronia was initially part of neighboring Bayswater . In 1915 the area was named by AE Chandler, a member of the council , after the coral diamonds ( boronia ) that grew on his property.
In 1920 a train station and a post office were opened, which led to an increase in the population. Another increase in population occurred in the 1960s and 1970s
