Award

The title was created on July 18, 1821 for Charlotte Mary Gertrude Strutt. Her husband Colonel Joseph Holden Strutt , who was a member of the House of Commons , had previously rejected a peer title that had been proposed to him and at the same time suggested that it be conferred on his wife. So he could keep his seat in the House of Commons.

The 1st Baroness herself came from a high nobility family, her father was James FitzGerald, 1st Duke of Leinster .
