Rayleigh is a market town in the district of Rochford in Essex , England . It is between Chelmsford and Southend-on-Sea . After the population increased sharply in the 1960s, the place now has about 34,000 inhabitants.

The Trinity Church from the 14th century, a windmill and the motte of a Saxon royal castle are worth seeing .
