Bergthron is a German pagan metal band from Plauen .

history

The band was founded in 1994, the first demo Through the Fog of Darkness contained only one 18-minute track of the same name. The band then got a record deal with the German label Perverted Taste , where their debut album Verborgen in den Tiefen der Wälder was released in 1995 . This takes over a melody sheet and the structure of the demo in a revised form and also contains only one title (this time more than half an hour). The band has kept a low profile on information about its members since it was founded. If you can still find information about the line-up in the depths of the woods , there is no longer any reference to the musicians in the later releases. Only the album Faust for Faust shows that Hendrik Eibisch and Sven Leonhardt played the keyboard. But since they are mentioned separately, it can be assumed that they are not permanent members of the band. The few interviews that Bergthron give are usually held by a “wolf grim”.

With Wotanskult , the pieces by Jagdheim were published on record, supplemented by the instrumental piece Wotanskult . Whereas on earlier albums the vocals typical of Black Metal were preferred, the proportion of clear vocals was much higher on Jagdheim and Wotanskult . This trend should continue fist after fist . This album was also released on CD and as a double LP, limited to 500 copies. As a bonus, there was a longer version of Dance of the Elements on the LP .

The album Leben und Lebenswille was released on February 10, 2007. Despite its length of 74 minutes, it is spread over three CDs. This album was advertised through a five-song promo. The title Geistreise is represented here in a different version with completely different vocals than on the album. The latest album Expedition Autarktis was released in 2010.

style

On early albums, the band was musically oriented towards Black Metal and the typical guttural vocals, but also clear vocals, such as the male choir in Hidden in the depths of the woods . From Jagdheim onwards the band began to use clear vocals, on the album Faust for Faust also female vocals, sometimes alternating with male vocals . In addition to the typical metal instruments, Bergthron uses keyboards and acoustic guitars. On Expedition Autarktis , the "sound of Bergthron (if one can even speak of THE typical sound) [...] is in a certain way more modern, maybe a little more experimental".

The musicians deal with Nordic- pagan themes, whereby “they put their main focus on nature and do not use hackneyed phrases”. The review of Hidden in the Depths of the Forests on Metal1.info credits the band with the fact that their lyrics sound “not artificial, not even very pathetic”, while they are described as “very pathetic” in the too ancient thoughts , which is here but do not attract negative attention; on the contrary, the band "brings this pathos across in a believable way". From the point of view of the band, " Nordic mythology can make increasingly clearer references to current secular events, which consequently makes everything suddenly appear more tangible, more alive". The album Expedition Autarktis is “[if you] like, […] the key, the connection between tradition and modernity”. The album was released in a metal box "because it can convey the cold and ruthless atmosphere of an Arctic expedition even when you touch it". In connection with this concept, the band has also changed optically: "Safety glasses like on the cover would have been unthinkable on 'Leben und Lebenswille', let alone on 'Faust für Faust'." The band doesn't want to explain the lyrics in more detail: “If the listener thinks about it, we have achieved our goal. But if I [...] would explain everything in detail, I would anticipate and take away the listeners the chance to interpret the work themselves and develop their own perspective. This is one of the reasons why the texts were not printed in full. Anyone who knows us will know that we are not doing it on the 'have been there a thousand times' track. "

The band's pagan understanding is shaped by folk: According to their own statement, they are inspired by “thoughts and feelings that our ancestors already carried within them” and which now “live on” in and through them. Paganism, as the old belief of their people, is also theirs. Through her music she wants to "spark awareness of nature, homeland and people". The band sees its task in “continuing this, because a people can only be big and strong if they are allowed to live their values and customs.” In the scene almanac , Bergthron expressed himself against the European Union and said only the “Germanic and Nordic peoples should unite to separate their culture from the southern. This is the only way to guarantee that these peoples can develop freely again. ”Although this position is clearly ethno-pluralistic , this should“ not be a stupid, artificial Nazi chatter, but simply a goal, our future should be! Our children should have a secure future and past, should know that they are Germanic and come from a proud people [...] ”.
