Through the fog of darkness is the only demo recording by the German pagan metal group Bergthron .

history

The demo was recorded in the band's rehearsal room with a four-track recorder and released in 1995 as one of the first German Pagan Metal productions in Germany. It is considered an important early work in the genre. Previously, only Falkenbach had released cassettes in this genre , and these were very limited , with the exception of Laeknishendr, which was also released in 1995 .

In the early 2000s, a new edition appeared on the label Perverted Taste . The title lord of the castle is crossed out on this .

style

The demo only contains a single song of around 18 minutes in length. The music differs from typical Pagan Metal and is far more raw and minimalistic than in Black Metal . Similar to Burzum, the guitar riffs are repetitive and the drumming is simple. The singing is guttural and incomprehensible. The metal pieces are interrupted by folkloric interludes. Instead of an acoustic guitar as in the following albums, the group here uses the electric guitar, which is partly accompanied by a keyboard. Due to the recording quality, both are slightly distorted.

meaning

The demo is mistakenly seen as a demo recording of the debut album, in fact only the melody of the outro for the debut album Hidden in the Depths of the Forests was taken up again. About the production of the demo, the band wrote in an interview in 2001 that the gruff sound was exactly what they wanted. "I think it's special for the listeners to hear the band under these conditions - raw and unpolished." A reviewer on Metal1.info described the recording as "something very remarkable", but it does not reach the depth, which would have been possible in the face of the later Bergthrons albums.
