Enerbanske

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Enerbanske (also: Oennerbänkisse or Oennererske = subterranean; is mostly used in the plural) are mythical creatures of the Heligoland tradition. They are described as small creatures, the brownies comparable bear living under the stairs, red pants and green caps. Like many other comparable beings, they help with the household and do the householders' work overnight. But they also appear at births and try to swap the children for their own. As a countermeasure, the parents should butter the feet of the newborn child.
