The village lies on both sides of the river, which forms the historical border between Bohemia and Moravia . To the north rises the Krk (655 m), in the east the Na Čermačkách (722 m) and Hřeben (715 m), to the southeast the Devět Skal (836 m), in the south the Žákova hora (809 m), southwest the Otrok (717 m) m) and Kamenný vrch (802 m) and to the west of the Vortovský vrch (704 m).

history

The place on the border between Bohemia and Moravia probably goes back to a foundation by Gerhard von Zbraslav and Obřany († 1291). His father Boček von Jaroslavice and Zbraslav († 1255) had donated the Cistercian monastery Saar on the Libitzer Steig in 1252 . The founding date of Moravian Heraletz is assumed to be 1279. In 1312, with Gerhard's son Smil, the family of the Lords of Zbraslav and Obřany , a branch of the family of the Lords of Kunstadt in the male line, and the goods fell to Heinrich von Lipá . The place was first mentioned in writing in 1358 in the course of a border dispute between the monastery and the Neustadtl lordship under the name Herhartz ( Herharts ). It is assumed that the place name is of German origin and goes back to a person named Herhart or Gerhart . In 1496 Wilhelm II of Pernstein acquired the Moravian share. The border town was described by Bohuslav Balbín in his Miscellanea historica regni Bohemiae .

There is evidence of the Mariánská Huť glassworks in Bohemia since 1604 . It was shut down in 1914. In 1952, Český and Moravský Herálec were combined into one municipality.
