geography

Nové Veselí is located on the upper reaches of the Oslava in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands on the edge of the protected landscape area CHKO Žďárské vrchy . The place lies on the bank of the Veselský rybník ( Wesseller pond ), to the northwest there is another large pond with the Matějovský rybník.

Neighboring towns are Budeč and Radonín in the north, Vatín and Sazomín in the east, Březí nad Oslavou and Kotlasy in the southeast, Pokojov and Bohdalov in the south, Újezd in the southwest and Matějov and Česká Mez in the northwest.

history

The place was probably created at the transition from the 13th to the 14th century during the settlement of the Moravian border forest on the Libitzer Steig trade route leading to Bohemia . The village of Wessela villa , which belonged to the Meziříčí lordship, was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1377 in the country table when Jan the J. von Meziříčí bequeathed all of his property to his cousin Jan the Elder before he left for Italy. Ä. signed by Meziříčí. The donation was made as early as 1368, however. The existence of a parish in Wesele has been documented since 1393. Since 1446 Wesele had the right to revert. In the following year Georg von Krawarn on Strážnice sold the Wesele Fortress to Jan the Elder. Ä. from Lomnice. 1515 inherited Vilém Meziříčský from Lomnice the fortress with the associated village. In 1529 Wesele was first referred to as a town. In 1552 the Neu Wessely estate was created. In 1562 Sigmund Held von Kement transferred the property to Meziříčí to his second wife Alena Meziříčský in a will. In 1563, Held granted the town of Wessely the right to brew brewing and for this purpose gave him the Kněžský rybník pond. In the same year Ferdinand I extended the privileges of the town, which was given the name Neu Wessely and a new coat of arms, to include jurisdiction, guild law and market law. The stately brewery was also built in 1563. In 1564 the fortress was converted into a small castle. Veselský rybník was established under the lords of Pernstein in the second half of the 16th century. In 1592, the Bohemian rule of Polna made importing beer barrels from New Wessely a punishable offense for their subjects in Velká Losenice . In 1598 Alena Berka von Lomnice confirmed the privileges granted by Sigmund Held. In 1654 14 houses burned down. In 1662, a school can be identified for the first time in Neu Wessely. After complaints about the quality of the beer, the Datschitzer captain Hertlin had the inns inspected in 1667. In 1678 Georg Christoph von Globitz acquired the Neu Wessely estate. The subsequent owners were the Counts Kinsky , who leased the estate to the Saar Cistercian monastery in 1707 and who finally sold the estate to them in 1709. In 1745 the Neu Wessely estate was deleted from the country table and the castle remained unused. After the completion of the St. Wenceslas Church, the old church was demolished in 1760. The desert castle was sold to the miller Růžička for 116 guilders in 1793. In 1831 a large fire destroyed 70 houses, including the school, the rectory and the church. When the church was rebuilt, the height of the tower was reduced by a third.

After the abolition of patrimonial Nové Veselí / Neu Wessely formed a market town in the political district of Neustadtl from 1850 . In 1926 a distillery started production. The status of Městys was not renewed in 1948. Since 1949 the community has belonged to the Okres Žďár nad Sázavou . In 1977 a cider factory was established. The municipality's coat of arms and banner was confirmed in Parliament in 1998. In 1999 a new cemetery was laid out, which was consecrated in 2000. Since October 10, 2006 Nové Veselí is again a Městys.
