history
The place was founded by German colonists. The first documentary mention of the village Wiechnow , which previously belonged to Auersperg Castle, took place in 1325, when Jeruše von Auersperg brought the place belonging to her trousseau to the Augustinian monastery at Doubravník . 1335 was the village as Hadmars and 1343 as Wechnaw referred. Later the spelling of the place name changed frequently. After the destruction of the monastery by the Hussites , the place came back to the Pernstein estates and was incorporated into the Bystřice manor . In the 17th century Wiehniow became the seat of a judge. At the beginning of the 19th century, the magnetite deposit east of the village was opened up and the Eisenschacht / Železinka colliery sunk. The mining turned out to be very profitable, as high-quality ore was extracted with little effort, which was smelted in the Stiepanau ironworks.
After the abolition of patrimonial Věchňov / Wiechnow formed a municipality in the Neustadtl district from 1850 . In 1893 the place was named Wěchnow and since 1915 it has been called Věchnov. In 1949 the community was assigned to the Okres Bystřice nad Pernštejnem. In 1961 it was assigned to the Okres Žďár nad Sázavou. In the 1980s, the Železinka mine, which was used to mine gravel after iron mining stopped, was closed and then largely filled with household waste. Between 1981 and 1992 Věchnov was incorporated into Bystřice nad Pernštejnem.
