history

Ostrov was founded by the lords of Lomnice on Tasov and was founded shortly after 1250. The place was first mentioned in a document in 1356. Later Vostrov was elevated to a knight's seat, and the owners included u. a. Jakub Míta from Vostrov. There is evidence of a brewery since 1572. A stone bridge with four arches led across the Oslava, on which tolls could be raised from 1584. At that time Ostrov had market rights and other city privileges.

In 1609 Tomáš Soběhrd von Kozlov bought the Ostrov estate from Václav von Radostín. Its goods were confiscated after the battle of the White Mountain . In 1621 the whole town burned down. Lev Burian Berka, who bought the estate in 1624, connected it to Neu Wessely . At the beginning of the 18th century, the Counts Kinsky inherited the goods and sold them, including the town of Ostrau, to the Saar monastery in 1709 .

After the abolition of patrimonial Ostrov formed a community in the political district of Neustadtl from 1850 . In 1920 the community name was expanded to include nad Oslavou . On February 1, 1922 Ostrov nad Oslavou was formally raised to Městys. This status was lost in 1948. Since 1949 the community has belonged to the Okres Žďár nad Sázavou . 1961 Suky was incorporated. In 2001 the community received a coat of arms and a banner. On December 1, 2006 Ostrov nad Oslavou was raised again to Městys.
