history

town hall

Tusnovice was first mentioned in a document in 1233 when Constanze of Hungary founded the Porta Coeli monastery . The place belonged to the property of the Margraves of Moravia and was called a town from 1240. It developed well up to the Hussite Wars and was counted among the thirty sovereign cities of the Margraviate of Moravia . In 1416, Wenceslas IV granted the city the privilege of holding a fair based on the Brno model. During the Hussite Wars, the city was burned down together with the monastery in 1428 and lay down. In 1554, the abbess Barbara Konitzký von Schwabenitz granted the town extensive privileges. In 1606 Tišnov was largely destroyed by a city fire. During the Thirty Years' War, the Swedes invaded and pillaged the place in 1643. In 1707 another city fire broke out. Tišnov remained the most important of the monastic benefices until the Porta Coeli monastery was secularized in 1782. In 1788 Tišnov was promoted to town. Afterwards Wilhelm von Mundy acquired the rule of Porta Coeli and built a cloth factory in the monastery. He was followed in 1821 by the Baron von Wittinghof.

After the abolition of patrimonial Tišnov / Tischnowitz became the seat of a judicial district in the political district of Brno in 1850 . After the Saxon monastery of St. Marienthal had acquired the goods in the pre- monastery in 1861, the monastic convent was renewed by the Cistercian women. In 1885 the city got a rail connection to Brno, and in 1905 the local railway Deutschbrod – Tischnowitz started operations. In 1880 there were 2589 people in Tišnov. In 1896 Tišnov was promoted to a district town. In 1921 Tišnov had 3477 inhabitants. Tišnov lost the district seat on January 1, 1961 and was incorporated into the Okres Brno-venkov .
