Ivančice (German Eibenschütz ) is a city in the Czech Republic . It is located 21 km southwest of Brno at the confluence of the Oslava and Rokytná in the Jihlava .
history
Ivančice was mentioned for the first time in 1221, and from 1288 it had the status of a royal town. In the 15th century the town came to the lords of Lipá , who owned it until the battle of the White Mountain . In the 16th century it was an important center of the Bohemian Brethren , including Jan Blahoslav , Bishop of the Bohemian Brothers and author of Czech grammar and translator of the New Testament from Greek and Latin into Czech , lived in Ivančice . Blahoslav founded a priest school with its own printing shop. During the Thirty Years' War Ivančice was re-Catholicized and lost its previous importance.

The town of Ivančice consists of the districts Alexovice ( Alexowitz ), Budkovice ( Budkowitz ), Ivančice ( Eibenschütz ), Hrubšice ( Hrubschitz ), Letkovice ( Ledkowitz ), Němčice ( Niemtschitz ) and Řeznovice ( Rzesnowitz ). Basic settlement units are Alexovice, Budkovice, Hrubšice, Ivančice-historické jádro, Krásná hora, Lány, Letkovice, Letkovická niva, Na Špýrech, Nad cihelnou, Němčice, Oslavanská ( suburbs Oslawan ), Uekárka, Réna, eznová most nemocnice, Za tratí and Záhumenice.
The municipality is divided into the cadastral districts of Alexovice, Budkovice, Hrubšice, Ivančice, Kounické Předměstí ( suburb Kanitz ), Letkovice, Němčice u Ivančic and Řeznovice.

Ivančice is the birthplace of the painter Alfons Mucha and the film and television actor Vladimír Menšík ( The Fairytale Bride ). In the city there are both permanent exhibitions in the museum. The name of the Jewish scholar Jonathan Eybeschütz , whose father was rabbi here , is derived from the German place name.
