Lubomír Hargaš

Lubomír Hargaš (born October 16, 1967 in Ivančice ; † August 20, 1997 in Židlochovice ) was a Czechoslovak and later a Czech track cyclist .

Lubomír Hargaš was one of the world's best tandem riders in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The athlete , who trained at Dukla Brno and with various partners, was vice world champion three times , in 1989 , 1991 and 1992 , and three times - in 1987 , 1992 and 1993 - third in the World Cup. However, he was never able to achieve the world title. In 1993 he won the national title on the tandem with his partner Arnost Drcmanek.

In August 1997, while training on the street with Pavel Buráň, 29-year-old Hargaš was killed in a collision with a bus. The sprint competition Memorial Lubomír Hargaš was held annually between 1998 and 2008 on the cycling track in his hometown Brno .
