history

The first written mention of Opatovice took place in 1048 together with Popovice , Rajhrad , Rajhradice , Loučka, Ořechov and Domašov in the founding deed of the Rajhrad monastery as monastic property. Duke Břetislav I had previously given the village to the abbot of the Břevnov monastery for the forthcoming foundation of the monastery. In the 17th century a chapel was built in the village to commemorate the plague epidemic that raged in Moravia between 1645 and 1676 , from which Opatovice was completely spared. In 1769 the village burned down after a lightning strike, with the exception of 12 houses. The destroyed chapel was replaced by a new building, which the prelate Otmar Karl Konrad consecrated in 1772. Until the middle of the 19th century, Opatovice was always subject to the Rajhrad monastery.

After the abolition of patrimonial Opatovice formed from 1850 a municipality in the district administration Hustopeče . In 1948 the municipality was assigned to the Okres Židlochovice. After its abolition, Opatovice came to Okres Brno-venkov in 1961.
