Želešice (German Schöllschitz , formerly Schellschütz ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located nine kilometers south of the city center of Brno and belongs to the Okres Brno-venkov .

geography

Želešice extends on both sides of the Bobrava in the Thaya-Schwarza valley basin . To the north rises the Na Kopci (307 m), southwest of the Na Pláni (283 m), in the west of the Písoňky (341 m) and in the northwest of the Kozí hora (355 m). The R 52 / E461 expressway runs east of Želešice ; exit 8 Želešice is just under two kilometers northeast.

Neighboring towns are Moravany in the north, Přízřenice and Modřice in the north-east, Sokolnice in the east, Popovice in the south-east, Rajhrad in the south, Syrovice in the south-west, Hajany and Ořechovičky in the west and Nebovidy and Střelice in the north-west.

history

The village Chelesiz was first mentioned in 1228 when Ottokar I Přemysl and Constance of Hungary founded the Cistercian monastery "Vallis Sanctae Mariae" in Oslavany . The monastery received the villages of Hnánice, Martinice, Ledkovice, Babice u Rosic , Želešice, Milíkovice and Všechovice as well as the vineyard in Loucká and the patronage over the churches in Sloup , Jaroslavice and the St. James Church in Brno . Since the founding deed of the monastery has not survived, the confirmation deed of Wenceslas I from 1232 is considered the oldest documentary evidence. Over time, the place was referred to as Schellschiz , Zelsicz, Sselssicz , Zelczycz , Zielissicze, Schellschitz and Schelschitz . In 1483 a chapel was built. This was expanded to a church in 1783 and a tower was added. The oldest local seal of Schelschicz comes from 1816. The name forms Schöllschitz and Žýlossice have been handed down from 1846 . The village belonged to the German-speaking Brno language island.

After the abolition of patrimonial Schöllschitz / Schöllschitz formed a municipality in the district administration of Brno from 1850. In 1897, Franz Ritter von Felbinger founded a dried vegetable factory in Schöllschitz. In 1921 the municipality was assigned to the Okres Brno-venkov. In the 1940s, construction work was carried out on the Reichsautobahn Breslau-Vienna west of the village . These were discontinued in 1943. On April 24, 1945, the tank battle of Groß Urhau took place in the area . After the end of World War II which occurred expulsion of the German population. Between 1948 and 1960 the municipality belonged to the Okres Brno-okolí. After its abolition, Želešice came back to Okres Brno-venkov. The municipality of Želešice has had a coat of arms and a banner since 2000.
