history

It is believed that the village was laid out at the beginning of the 13th century as part of the German colonization of the Heynrichs area under Margrave Vladislav Heinrich . Preserved field names such as Šrontol , Hakny and Mitrlisy have their origins in the German language. Svatoslav was first mentioned in writing in 1240, when Wenceslaus I left the village, which had previously belonged to the sovereign Veveří castle , including the Pánov fortress and other goods, to the Porta Coeli monastery in exchange for Brtnice and Komín. At that time Svatoslav was an important parish village and was still under the protection of the sovereign Veveří Castle. During the Hussite Wars , the area was hit twice by the insurgents in 1428 and 1435. It is possible that Svatoslav was also destroyed during this time, and the neighboring towns of Hainrichsdorff , Radoškov and Přibyslavice were then desolate. Subsequently, the teaching of the Bohemian Brethren spread . At the end of the 15th century, a brick church with a tower was built in place of the old wooden church. In the land register of the Porta Coeli rule from 1539, 21 peasants, 10 stewards and a miller are recorded for Svatoslav. In 1577 the pastor of Svatoslav belonged to the Bohemian Brothers. At the beginning of the 17th century the church received a Catholic pastor again; the first news about it comes from 1617, when the pastor Jeremiáš Kulman was transferred to Výmyslice . During the first siege of Brno by the Swedes, the area was ravaged by Swedish troops in 1642, who burned the entire village. On his return from Znojmo near Svatoslava, the provost of the monastery, Arnold Weißkopp, was ambushed and shot with two bullets. He may have been involved in a battle in the forest near Pánov. The parish became extinct during the Thirty Years' War, since 1649 Svatoslav was attached to the parish of Deutsch Kinitz . At the beginning of the 18th century there was again a pastor in Svatoslav, after the clergyman moved to Moravské Knínice in 1711, the Deutsch Kinitz pastor took over the care again. The Svatoslav locality was re- parished in 1748 to the nearby Deblín parish church. In 1756 the Svatoslav parish was renewed. School lessons in the village began at this time. On March 2, 1782, the monastery was closed by Emperor Joseph II in the course of the Josephine reforms . In 1793 the village consisted of 49 houses and had 312 inhabitants. In 1798 the Porta Coeli estate was sold to Wilhelm von Mundy . In 1821 Johann von Mundy sold the Porta Coeli estate to Friedrich Schell von Wittinghoff. An outbreak of cholera claimed numerous victims in 1836, including pastor Martin Krechler. In 1839 Svatoslava had grown to 67 houses in which 411 people lived.

After the abolition of patrimonial Svatoslava / Svatoslau formed from 1850 with the districts Křižínkov and Pánov a municipality in the district administration Brno . The new village school was inaugurated in 1856. In 1859 a new cemetery was consecrated on the southern outskirts and the previous one at the church was lifted. In 1866 cholera broke out again. In 1867 Křižínkov and Pánov broke up and formed their own community. The volunteer fire brigade was founded in 1894 on the initiative of Mayor Josef Vala. In 1896 Svatoslava was assigned to the newly formed district administration Tischnowitz . The community had 652 inhabitants in 1900 and consisted of 103 houses. At the beginning of the 20th century the place name was changed to Svatoslav . The 1921 census counted 122 houses and 682 inhabitants in Svatoslav; With the exception of five foreigners, the population consisted of the Czech ethnic group. In 1924 659 people lived in the community. After the end of the Second World War, 15 families from Svatoslav moved to the north and south Moravian border areas. After the dissolution of the Okres Tišnov, Svatoslav became part of the Okres Brno-venkov at the beginning of 1961 . At the end of 1990 the community had 445 inhabitants. The villages of Pánov, Radoškov and Svatoslav belong to the Catholic parish of Svatoslav today.
