history
In 1722 an ironworks was built in the valley of the Weißbach by the Eichhorn lordship, which was named Eichhornhütte ( Veverská huť ). It processed the ore that was mined in several small pits of the rule.
In 1850 the Eichhornhütte was closed. The iron ore obtained was then processed in the more modern smelters and hammer mills of Segen Gottes and Stiepanau , which were already fired with coke . The former smelter Ignaz Storek founded a modern iron foundry on the Kröna in Brno around 1860 , in which he took over several of his former employees from the Eichhornhütte and which rose to become the third largest mechanical engineering factory in Moravia.
The tourist development of the place began at the beginning of the 20th century. Since 1902, the Vítání jara ( Welcome to Spring ) festival has been celebrated in Šmelcovna on the first Sunday after the start of spring, which culminates in Morena's litter in the Bílý potok. Between 1912 and 1933 Petr Bezruč participated regularly with his troops.
Šmelcovna is a resort town that consists largely of holiday homes and cottages.
