Zbýšov (German Zbeschau ) is a city in the Czech Republic . It is located 19 kilometers west of the city center of Brno and belongs to the Okres Brno-venkov .

geography

Zbýšov is located at the transition from the Jaispitzer hill country ( Jevišovická pahorkatina ) to the Boskowitz furrow in Moravia in the headwaters of the Brodky brook. The Síčka (421 m) rises to the northeast. To the north of the city are the disused coal mines Jindřich, Antonín and Ferdinand. The Anna colliery in the south is also closed.

Neighboring towns are Babice in the north, Rosice and Tetčice in the northeast, Kratochvilka in the east, Neslovice in the southeast, Padochov , Mašínka and Oslavany in the south, Čučice in the southwest, Ketkovice and Lukovany in the west and Zakřany in the northwest.

history

Archaeological finds prove a settlement of the place since the Neolithic Age . The first written mention of Zbýšov comes from the year 1280, when the regional marshal Bohuš von Drahotuše left the village to his daughter, who donated it to the Oslawan monastery when she entered the monastery .

In the second half of the 18th century, the coal deposits were discovered in the Rossitz-Oslawan Basin. In 1790 Zbeschau consisted of 53 houses and had 313 inhabitants. In 1820 the first coal mine opened on the Siczka Mountain (Síčka) with the “Liebe Gottes” colliery. The Rahn mining entrepreneurial family from Rossitz opened additional coal mines in Zbeschau. This included the Ferdinand colliery, which has been in operation since the mid-19th century. On the initiative of the mine owner of Segen Gottes , Ernst Johann Ritter Herring, and the mining entrepreneur Anton Rahn from Zbeschau, the private Brno-Rossitz railway company was founded, which began in 1852 with the construction of the Brno - Strelitz – Rossitz – Segen Gottes railway line . In 1855 the railway line was completed; on January 2, 1856, the first coal train of God's blessing drove via Brno to Vienna and on July 1, 1856 passenger traffic began. From God's blessing, a branch line ran from 1862 via Babice to the Heinrich and Ferdinand collieries and to Zbeschau, which was continued to Oslawan in 1873. In 1881 Rossitzer Bergbau AG bought the pits of the Inneberger Gesellschaft in the southern district near Zbeschau and Oslawan in a blessing of God and thus owned all the coal mines in the Rossitz-Oslawan basin with the exception of the "Liebe Gottes" mine near Kratochvilka . Mining changed the character of Zbeschau from a rural village to a mountain town, which in 1890 consisted of 128 houses and had 1,624 inhabitants. In 1893 a church and a new school were built, and in 1924 the miners' house.

Between 1949 and 1960 Zbýšov belonged to the Okres Rosice. In 1955 the mining at the Ferdinand colliery was stopped and in 1992 the concrete shaft was kept . The tracks on the section between the Jindřich (Heinrich) colliery and Oslavany were dismantled; the railway line between Zastávka and the former Jindřich colliery was retained as a siding for the local company Kepák as. In 1965 Zbýšov was promoted to town. In 1970 the sinking of the Jindřich II shaft was completed, and the 905 m deep Jindřich I shaft was backfilled at the same time. In 1992, Důl Jindřich II, the last mine in Zbýšov, was shut down. With a depth of 1,550 m, it was the deepest coal mine in the country and one of the deepest in Central Europe. In December 2007, a chalice and several figures were stolen when the church was broken into.
