history

The first written mention of the place took place in 1237 in a document Wenceslas I about the cession of several villages to the Church of St. Peter in Brno , where the brothers Karel, Beneš and Ladislav von Říčany appeared as witnesses. The seat of the lords of Říčany, who belonged to a widespread Bohemian-Moravian family, was the Říčky fortress. It lay desolate between 1539 and 1552 and was probably rebuilt around 1560. In 1562 Znata von Lomnice tried unsuccessfully to incorporate the neighboring village of Ostrovačice , belonging to the Rajhrad monastery , into his rule Říčany. In 1575 the Říčky fortress is noted in the oldest map of Moravia and also in the Comenius map from 1633. Later the fortress ceased and the Říčany manor was attached to Eichhorn Castle . In the 17th century, a knight's seat was built north of the village of Říčany. Since its owners lived on Eichhorn, the manor house became the seat of the mayor, tax collector and clerk. At the end of the 17th century, the Lords of Teuffenbach acquired the property through marriage. They were followed by the families Collalto, Sinzendorf , Mundy and Gustav Prince von Wasa .

After the abolition of patrimonial Říčany formed from 1850 a municipality in the Brno district and from 1921 in the Okres Brno-venkov. The volunteer fire brigade was founded in 1888 . In the last days of the Second World War, fierce fighting broke out between the Wehrmacht and the Red Army in the area at the end of April. In 1948 the community was assigned to the Okres Rosice. After its cancellation, Říčany came back to Okres Brno-venkov in 1961. In 1980 the resolution was passed to unite the municipalities Ostrovačice, Říčany, Veverské Knínice into a unified municipality Říčany-Ostrovačice with its seat in Říčany. In 1984 the construction of the new Automotodrom Brno began in the forest area of Podkomorské lesy . The communist government of Štrougal pushed through the plans against the protests of residents of the surrounding villages and nature conservationists against the large-scale project in the forest. The new track was inaugurated in 1987 with a round of the motorcycle world championship . On November 22, 1990, the municipality Říčany-Ostrovačice dissolved again.
