Moravské Bránice , formerly České Bránice (German Mährisch Branitz , formerly Bohemian Branitz ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located five kilometers southeast of Ivančice and belongs to the Okres Brno-venkov .

geography

Moravské Bránice extends in the Hlínská vrchovina on the left side of the Jihlava along the brooks Bukovinka and Lozarka. The Babí hora rises to the northeast (351 m), the Karlova hora (286 m) to the east, the Šibeniční vrch (296 m) to the southeast, the Réna (319 m), Komořina (318 m) and Kalce to the northwest, and the Bukovina (385 m). The railway line Hrušovany nad Jevišovkou – Brno runs northwest over the village , where the railway station is also located. The branch line Moravské Bránice – Oslavany branches off for one and a half kilometers, where the main line crosses the Jihlava valley on the Ivančice viaduct .

Neighboring towns are Hlína in the north, Silůvky , Karlov and Tikovice in the northeast, Mělčany in the east, Dolní Kounice in the southeast, Nové Bránice in the south, Budkovice in the southwest, Němčice and Alexovice in the west and Ivančice in the northwest.

history

The village was first mentioned in a document dated 1173, according to which Wilhelm von Polan left the three villages of Kounice , Mělčany and Bránice to the Premonstratensian monastery Rosa Coeli . However, this is a forgery from the 14th century. In 1185 the battle of Loděnice is said to have taken place in the area . The written record from 1276 is certain. Moravské Bránice has been a wine-growing place from ancient times due to its southern slopes. The oldest local seal from 1703 shows two winemaker knives and a grape in the coat of arms. It was labeled in German and in Czech.

After the abolition of patrimonial České Bránice / Böhmisch Branitz formed from 1850 a municipality in the district authority of Brno. In the 1860s, the Hrušovany nad Jevišovkou – Střelice railway was built on the slope northwest of the village . In 1870 the first all-iron viaduct in Austria-Hungary was built west of České Bránice . The place name Moravské Bránice / Mährisch Branitz has been in use since 1880 . In 1912, the Kanitz-Eibenschitz-Oslawan local railway started operating . In 1921 the municipality was assigned to the Okres Brno-venkov. Between 1948 and 1960 Moravské Bránice was part of the Okres Rosice. After its cancellation, Moravské Bránice came back to the Okres Brno-venkov. Viticulture, which had come to a standstill, was resumed in the 1960s and 1980s. Vineyards were planted again on the lower part of the Kalce hill and on the Karlova hora. The old Ivančice viaduct was replaced in 1978 by a new parallel building and most of it was demolished. In 2001 the village consisted of 330 houses and had 918 inhabitants.
