history

Wilhelm von Pulin (also called Pulin Graf von Dürnholz or Wilhelm Graf von Pollau) founded the monastery of the Virgin Mary for nuns of the Premonstratensian order in 1181 - according to legend, as a penance imposed by the Pope for atrocities committed. It was later named Rosa Coeli. Between 1330 and 1390, it was rebuilt in the Gothic style. During the Hussite Wars , the monastery was sacked and began to deteriorate. In 1528 the monastery was extinguished and the Czech Vice Chancellor Jiří Žabka von Limberg acquired the extensive land.

At the end of the 17th century, the Strahov Premonstratensians from Prague began with the reconstruction, which, however, came to a standstill in 1703 due to another fire disaster. Then the complex was finally left to decay and sold by the religious in 1808. After extensive security measures, it was released for inspection and is now used by the community for open-air performances.
