Menin is a protein , which in the nucleus of vertebrates and insects on the DNA repair and development processes participates. The exact function is still unclear. Since a lack of menin can lead to tumors , the outdated term tumor suppressor is also used . In humans, menin is produced in many types of tissue . Meninmangel by mutations in MEN1 - gene (chromosome region 11q13) results in multiple endocrine neoplasia type. 1

In the case of DNA damage, menin occurs increasingly in a phosphorylated form. It can bind to different forms of DNA. Protein binding partners include FANCD2 and DBF4 as well as complexes with MLL. Menin is a participant in the MAPKKK signal cascade . By upregulating CDK inhibitors, menin can delay the G2 / M phase transition and reduce cyclin B2 expression. It takes part in developmental processes and gestational diabetes .
