history

The village was first mentioned in documents in 1252 when Boček von Jaroslavice and Zbraslav donated it to the Saar monastery, which he founded . In 1563 the Žďár abbot Stefan released the village from all compulsory labor. In 1606 the Diocese of Olomouc acquired the place. In 1638, Simon Kratzer von Schönsberg began building a fortress that remained unfinished. In 1695 the place received the experience of creating a vineyard.

In 1702 Philipp Ludwig von Sinzendorf acquired the village. Maximilian von Dietrichstein bought Rohrbach in 1748. During the Napoleonic War, French troops and Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte and his staff passed through the town on November 19, 1805 . In 1819 Albert Kasimir von Sachsen-Teschen became the owner of the village, which then passed to the Habsburgs .

With the construction of the Kaiser-Ferdinands-Nordbahn from Lundenburg to Brno by the Austrian Northern Railway in 1838, Rohrbach received a railway connection and station. This led to the settlement of businesses. The largest sugar factory in Moravia was built between 1881 and 1882. In 1895 the almost three kilometer long local railway to Seelowitz was built . As a result of the global economic crisis, the sugar factory ceased operations in 1929. In 1930 there were 1,841 people living in the village. In the 1930s, the railroad was expanded to two tracks. 1979 the passenger traffic on the railway to Židlochovice was stopped.

The shoe manufacturer Botex was located in Hrušovany until the 1990s. The largest industrial property that defines the townscape has been fallow since the Botex was liquidated. The largest companies in Hrušovany since then have been the Ytong company , which produces aerated concrete blocks, and the Romika Industries shoe factory. On April 27, 1997 Pope John Paul II visited the place and laid the foundation stone for the new church, which was consecrated on August 21, 2004 by the Brno Bishop Vojtěch Cikrle .
