Vojtěch Cikrle (born August 20, 1946 in Bosonohy ) is a Czech clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Brno .

Life

Vojtěch Cikrle learned the profession of foundry worker, as he, who came from a family persecuted by the communist regime of the then Czechoslovakia , was initially prohibited from studying. Later he made up his Abitur at the Secondary School for Working People in Brno . After completing his military service (1969–1971) he studied at the theological college in Litoměřice and was ordained a priest for the diocese of Brno on June 27, 1976 . He then worked as a pastor in the diocese of Brno and in 1982 became Prefect and later Regens of the Leitmeritz seminary .

On January 14, 1990, Pope John Paul II appointed him bishop of the diocese of Brno, which had been vacant since 1972. The Archbishop of Olomouc František Vaňák donated him episcopal consecration on March 31 of the same year. Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Vienna , Cardinal Hans Hermann Groër , and the Bishop of Leitmeritz , Josef Koukl .
