Prefect (education)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A prefect (derived from the Roman praefectus , head) is an educator in (mostly church) boarding schools , who looks after the students in their free time and when they do their homework. In the past it was often young religious priests or prospective priests, later also teachers in training and sometimes older students.

In the case of the boys' choir it is the position of the Konviktsleiter (as opposed to the musical director), or in the case of smaller choirs a temporary social support function during a long series of performances or tours .

Some student associations such as the Marian Congregation are also familiar with this function. It corresponds to the managing director of an association, the advice to a Konsult has to accompany. Spiritual care and pastoral care , on the other hand, has a praeses (mostly a Jesuit).
