Petr Esterka (born November 14, 1935 in Dolní Bojanovice ) is auxiliary bishop emeritus in Brno .

Life

On June 15, 1957, he fled to Austria and in September of the same year began his studies at the Pontifical Collegium Nepomucenum in Rome . On March 9, 1963, he was ordained a priest in Rome . He was entrusted with the pastoral care of the Czech emigrants in the Archdiocese of San Antonio .

In 1967 he was awarded a Dr. theol. PhD ; after returning to the USA, he began his academic career. From 1974 to 1995 he served in the US Air Force . In 1978 he devoted himself to the work among the Czechs in the USA and Canada and from 1994 also in Australia.

In 1987 he was appointed Monsignor by Pope John Paul II and in 1992 Pope Honorary Prelate .

After returning to his Czech homeland, he was appointed auxiliary bishop in Brno and titular bishop of Cefala on July 5, 1999 by Pope John Paul II . He received episcopal ordination from Bishop Vojtěch Cikrle , the diocesan bishop of Brno. Co- consecrators were the Apostolic Nuncio Giovanni Coppa and the Archbishop of Olomouc , Jan Graubner . He retained responsibility for the concerns of Czech Catholics abroad.

His motto is EUNTES IN MUNDUM UNIVERSUM - Go out into the whole world (Mk.16.15)

On December 9, 2013, Pope Francis granted his resignation due to reasons of age .
