Jan Graubner (born August 29, 1948 in Brno ) is Archbishop of Olomouc and Metropolitan of the Church Province of Moravia .

Life

After graduating from high school in Strážnice in 1967 , Graubner had to work as a worker for a year before he was allowed to study Catholic theology in Olomouc . In 1973 he received the sacrament of ordination and initially worked in pastoral care in Zlín and Valašské Klobouky . In 1982 he became pastor of the parishes in Vizovice , Provodov and Horní Lhota u Luhačovic .

On 17 March 1990 Pope appointed him John Paul II. To the titular of Tagaria and Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Olomouc. The Archbishop of Olomouc František Vaňák donated him the episcopal ordination on April 7, 1990. Co -consecrators were Bishop Vojtěch Cikrle of Brno and Bishop Karel Otčenášek of Königgrätz . His motto is Quod dixerit vobis facite (“Do what he tells you”) and comes from the Gospel of John ( John 2.5  EU ).

On September 22nd, 1992 he was appointed Archbishop of Olomouc by John Paul II as the successor to the late František Vaňák. He took over the office on November 7, 1992. Graubner was chairman of the Czech Bishops' Conference from 2000 to 2010 and chairman of the pastoral commission and the commission for charitable purposes. In 2020 he became chairman of the Czech Bishops' Conference again.

In June 2000 revealed Šumperk Olomouc Archbishop Graubner for the dean Christopher Alois Lautner , who during the Northern Moravia Witch Trials was burnt alive in 1685, a commemorative plaque and apologized for the debt portion of the church to the witch trials .

The Grand Master of the Equestrian Order of the Holy grave in Jerusalem , Edwin Frederick O'Brien Cardinal , appointed him on 17 April 2016 St. Wenceslas in Olomouc for Grand Officer and Grand Prior of the Czech Lieutenancy of the Equestrian Order of the Holy grave in Jerusalem .
