Vizovice (German Wisowitz ) is a city in East Moravia in the Czech Republic . It is located in the Vizovická vrchovina , 14 km east of Zlín at the confluence of the Bratřejovka in the Lutoninka valley .
history
Vizovice was first mentioned in 1261 when the Smilheim monastery was founded by Smil von Zbraslav and Střílky . Smil was Burgrave of Brumov and owned extensive lands in the area. 1418-1420 Utraquists came to the place and monastery and during the Hussite Wars in 1424 both were destroyed. After the fall of the monastery in 1484/85, Vizovice fell to noble owners. In 1570 it received city rights .
In 1663, 1683 and 1707 Vizovice suffered from the armed invasion of the Hungarians. An economic boom followed in the 18th century with cloth weaving. From 1750–1760 a baroque palace was built on the site of the former monastery according to plans by the master builder Franz Anton Grimm , and in 1781 the hospital of the Brothers of Mercy was built next to the palace . From the end of the 19th century several small spirits factories were operated. In 1880 Vizovice had 2,668 inhabitants, including 51 Germans.
The Masters of Rock Heavy Metal Festival takes place in Vizovice every year .
