history

The first written mention of the village Brzeznicz was in the Olomouc country table in 1397, when the Moravian Margrave Jobst sold the town and the fortress Zlín with all its accessories to Zdenko von Sternberg . The name of the place is derived from the river of the same name, which originates here. The parish church in Brzeznicze was first mentioned in 1437 . In 1570 a priest of the Bohemian Brethren was introduced in Brzeznicze and in 1619 the village had a Lutheran pastor. Between 1620 and 1644 the inhabitants of the village took part in the Wallachian uprising. After the uprising was put down, a resident of Brzeznicze was also executed. The parish became extinct after the Thirty Years War. In 1670 the village consisted of 26 farms. In the Theresian cadastre 44 chalets are shown for Brzeznicze . In 1779 a Catholic branch was established. The place name Březnica has been used since 1846 . Of the 180 families resident in 1844, with the exception of three, all farmed. Some of the residents worked as seasonal workers in the more fertile areas of Moravia and Upper Hungary. Until the middle of the 19th century, Březnica always remained subordinate to Zlín.

After the abolition of patrimonial formed Brežnica / Brzesnitz 1850 a municipality in the district administration Holešov and the judicial district Napajedla . From 1855 the municipality belonged to the Napajedla District and from 1869 to the Uherské Hradiště District . In 1857 the Expositur was elevated to a Catholic parish.

The current place name has been in use since 1893. In the censuses of 1921 and 1930, the majority of the population was Catholic, and a small minority belonged to the Czechoslovak Hussite Church. In 1935 the municipality was assigned to the newly created political and judicial district of Zlín. During the German occupation , 59 residents of the village took part in the resistance. 38 of them were arrested and 19 murdered. From 1950 the community belonged to the Okres Gottwaldov-okolí and from 1960 back to the Okres Gottwaldov, which since 1990 has been called Okres Zlín again after the political change . In 1976 Březnice was incorporated into Gottwaldov . Since the beginning of 1993 Březnice has again formed its own municipality.
