The small town of Luhačovice ([ ˈlʊɦat͡ʃɔvɪt͡sɛ ]) (German Bad Luhatschowitz ) is due to its mineral springs and favorable climatic conditions as the largest and oldest health resort in Moravia and one of the most important health resorts in the Czech Republic .

Medicinal springs

From 1629 until the expropriation by the communist regime in 1948, Luhačovice belonged to Count Serényi de Kis Serény . Since the restitution in 2016 to Isabella Baroness Thienen-Adlerflycht , née Countess Serényi, the castle and the associated forestry and agricultural operations have now belonged to the descendants of the family again. The Count Serényi recognized the healing properties of the springs very early and helped the place to become one of the most popular baths in Austria-Hungary. The originally predominant agriculture and forestry operations lost economic importance as the pool operations increased. The mineral springs were known since 1669 and have been used as medicinal springs since 1790. After 1902 they were operated by the Luhačovice Baths Joint Stock Company, with the expansion of the bath infrastructure on a large scale. While 861 patients were cured in 1851, in 1909 there were already over 5000 and in 1930 13,260 guests. After the Second World War, the changing rooms were administered nationally, from 1948 after the February overthrow of KSČ completely nationalized.

The spa tradition began in Luhačovice in the early 18th century and flourished at the beginning of the 19th century, which was accompanied by the general boom in balneology in the countries of the Bohemian Crown . 15,000 liters of mineral water are pumped per hour . The most important minerals dissolved in it are sodium, calcium, magnesium, chlorine, bromine and iodine. The temperature of the spring water is between 10 and 12 ° C. The most famous sources are the Vincentka, Aloiska, Ottovka, Pramen Dr. Šťastného and Sv. Josefa (Dr Šťastný and St. Josef springs). With the mineral water obtained here, diseases of the respiratory tract , the digestive tract and motor skills , diabetes and metabolic disorders are cured. In addition to inhalations and mud baths, drinking cures are particularly popular, which are usually combined with long walks between the springs distributed in the spa park.

Due to the founding activity of the Serényi, several sources have been named after members of this family, for example the Vincentka (after Count Vinzenz Serényi), the Aloiska (after Count Alois Serényi ) and the Ottovka (after Count Otto Serényi).
