Hajdúszoboszló [ ˈhɒjduːsobosloː ] (German: Sobols , older Hungarian name: Szoboszló) is a health resort in the Great Hungarian Plain . Only about 20 km from Debrecen and a good 200 km from Budapest , this city is located directly on the M4 and is in Hajdú-Bihar County . The famous Hortobágyi National Park is nearby. The majority of the 24,000 inhabitants are Calvinist . In Hajdúszoboszló, with an area of 30 hectares, you will find Hungary's largest spa complex, Hajdúszoboszló . Due to the healing springs and some natural gas fields in the vicinity, Hajdúszoboszló is today a rather wealthy community in the still comparatively poor eastern Hungary. Hajdúszoboszló is the most famous spa town of the Hungarian lowlands - the main attractions include the spa complex with the famous spa, the outdoor pool, the aquapark and the aqua palace.

geography

In the 1920s, geologist Ferenc Pávai Vajna discovered thermal water while drilling gas. The municipality of Hajdúszoboszló is divided into two parts, the main part is also the city and this is traversed by the Keleti Canal . The main part borders on the following municipalities:

Nagyhegyes
Nádudvar Neighboring communities Ebes
Kaba Hajdúszovát Mikepércs Sáránd Derecske

Viewed topographically, the city is located in the area of the Hajdúhát, the Hortobágy, or the Nagy-Sárrét and Berettyó. The landscape of the city is mainly characterized by the flat land, which is made more varied by smaller and larger mounds of earth, or loess and mud areas, and whose level changes in waves.

history

The first written mention goes back to King Géza I in 1075. At the beginning of the 17th century, Stephan Bocskai Heiducken settled in the city, hence the not yet common Hajdú in the name. In 1660 the place was devastated by Turkish forces under the leadership of Ahmed Szejdi during the punitive expedition against George II Rákóczi .

traffic

Hajdúszoboszló has an airport ( ICAO code : LHHO) and a connection to the M4 ( E573 ) motorway and a station on the Szolnok-Záhony railway line ( MAV route number 100).

climate

The city always has a warm and dry climate in the winter and summer months due to the landscape of the lowlands. In summer the number of hours of sunshine is particularly high, which benefits the city's tourism. In contrast to the rare rainfall, the movement of air can be felt all the time. There is seldom calm in the city. The development of the sanatorium was favored by these excellent climatic conditions.
