Peter Takeo Okada

Peter Takeo Okada ( Japanese ペ ト ロ 岡田 武夫 , Petoro Okada Takeo ; born October 24, 1941 in Ichikawa , Japan ) is a Japanese clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Tokyo .

Life

Peter Takeo Okada received the sacrament of ordination for the Archdiocese of Tokyo on November 3, 1973 through Archbishop Peter Seiichi Shirayanagi .

On April 15, 1991 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To the Bishop of Urawa . The episcopal ordination received his Archbishop Peter Shirayanagi on 16 September of the same year. Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Osaka , Paul Hisao Yasuda , and the Archbishop of Nagasaki , Francis Xavier Kaname Shimamoto IdP . On February 17, 2000, Okada was appointed Archbishop of Tokyo by Pope John Paul II.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on October 25, 2017. Beyond this point in time, he remained apostolic administrator of this diocese, which was vacant from July 27, 2013, to September 25, 2018, until the new Bishop of Saitama took office .
