The Roman Catholic Diocese of Saitama ( lat. : Dioecesis Saitamaensis , jap. カトリックさいたま教区, katorikku Saitama Kyoku ) is in Japan situated Roman Catholic diocese , based in Saitama .

history

Pope Pius XI founded the Apostolic Prefecture Urawa on January 4, 1939 out of territory from the diocese of Yokohama .

With the Apostolic Constitution Qui superna Dei it was elevated to a diocese on December 16, 1957. It took its current name on March 31, 2003 after Urawa was incorporated into Saitama in 2001.
