Portaro was a Portuguese car brand.
Company history
The company Sociedade Electromecânica de Automóveis from Lisbon started in 1974 with the production of off-road vehicles under license from the Romanian car manufacturer ARO . The brand name is from Port UGAL and ARO composed. Export to other countries started in 1978. Production ended in 1998. Around 700 vehicles were built annually. They were produced in the Fábrica de Máquinas Agrícolas do Tramagal in Tramagal . In addition, vehicles of this brand are said to have been manufactured by Francisco Batista Russo & Irmão .
Models
First there were the models 240 with a four-cylinder engine from Renault with 1300 cc displacement and the 250 D with a four-cylinder diesel engine from Daihatsu with 2530 cc, both with either two-wheel or four-wheel drive . In 1983 the 260 Celta Turbo followed in several body variants and with either a petrol or diesel engine. In 1985 the 230 PV appeared with a four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1207 cm³ and an output of 69 hp and the 230 DCM with an engine from Volvo .
