Peter Seiichi Cardinal Shirayanagi ( Japanese ペ テ ロ 白 柳 誠 一 , Petero Shirayanagi Seiichi ; born June 17, 1928 in Hachiōji , Japan ; † December 30, 2009 in Tokyo ) was Archbishop of Tokyo .

Life

Peter Seiichi Shirayanagi received the sacrament of ordination on December 21, 1954 after studying philosophy and Catholic theology at the Sophia University in Tokyo . He then completed a postgraduate course in the subject canon law and in 1960 he was charged with a dissertation on the topic De Systemate regionis Missionalis in Iponia ( "On the system of the mission area in Japan") at the Pontifical Urban University in Rome to Dr. iur. can. Peter Seiichi Shirayanagi had been an honorary member and spiritual companion of the Catholic student association AV Edo-Rhenania in Tokyo , an association that was friendly with the Cartell Association of Catholic German student associations and in particular the AV Rheinstein in Cologne , since 1963, the year it was founded .
