Josef Ferstl from Förstenau

Josef Ferstl von Förstenau (born August 21, 1820 in Vienna , † June 22, 1883 ) was an Austrian physician and geologist .

Life

Ferstl of Förstenau studied at the Vienna University of Medicine and was there in 1845 with a geological dissertation to Dr. med. PhD . His dissertation "De monitbus circa Nikolsburg sitis" (printed in German translation " Geognostic observation of the Nikolsburg mountains ") contains the "probably first description of the Upper Jurassic - fauna of the Lower Austrian cliff mountains ". Ferstl worked as a doctor in Vienna and belonged to the circle of friends of the geologist Franz von Hauer (1822–1899). In 1853 he published a study on the spa town of Luhatschowitz in Moravia .
