Order of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk (1st class)

The Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk Order ( Czech Řád Tomáše Garrigua Masaryka ) is one of the highest state awards in the Czech Republic and the former ČSFR . It was founded in 1990 after the Velvet Revolution and renewed in 1994 after the state was divided. It is named after the Czech politician Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk .

The President of the Czech Republic awards the insignia of the Order to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the promotion of democracy, humanity and human rights. The medal has five levels, of which 1st class is the highest.

The Czech President is entitled to the 1st class of the order for the duration of his term of office. By a joint decision of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of the Czech Republic , he can be awarded a medal for life after leaving office.

Along with the Order of the White Lion , the Medal of Valor and the Medal of Merit , the order is one of the four Czech state awards .
