Rudolf Karel

Rudolf Karel (born November 9, 1880 in Pilsen , Austria-Hungary ; † March 6, 1945 in Theresienstadt concentration camp ) was a Czech composer .

biography

The son of a railway employee studied composition with Antonín Dvořák and organ with Klička in Prague from 1899 to 1904 . In 1914 he traveled to Russia, where he was suspected of espionage after the outbreak of war and was then arrested. He was able to break out of his Irkutsk captivity. On his return he became a teacher at the Prague Conservatory .

In Prague he participated in the resistance against National Socialism and was arrested on March 19, 1943. In February 1945 he was deported to the Theresienstadt concentration camp .
