Evald Schorm (born December 15, 1931 in Prague , † December 14, 1988 there ) was a Czechoslovak film director.

Life

Evald Schorm studied film and television at the Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU) at the Prague Film School and then worked as a documentary filmmaker. With a few short films, he proved his talent as a close observer of social developments. His first full-length feature film, Courage for Everyday Life , shows a worker who is thrown off the rails by betraying his ideals. The relevant authorities strongly condemned the film, while it received good reviews abroad. In the following years, too, Schorm's films were only released for showing with a delay or not at all, and he himself was banned from working from 1970. Nevertheless, Schorm is considered to be one of the leading exponents of Czechoslovak film during the Prague Spring .
